Driving Aids

Driving Aids

Electronic Hand Controls

Electronic Accelerators reduce the fatigue of driving compared to a Mechanical Pull Accelerator.

They greatly reduce the force required to operate the throttle compared to a mechanical column or floor-mounted hand control. Specially designed electronic accelerators such as an Over Ring can be used independently or paired with a separate Mechanical Push Brake to suit your control requirements.

Mechanical Hand Controls

Hand Controls move the function of the pedals to a convenient push/pull handle, behind the steering wheel, comfortably positioned for your right hand.

Enables users with partial or limited use of their legs to drive by transferring acceleration & braking to their right hand. Multiple handle styles are available to suit you. They can even include an indicator switch or secondary controls with buttons for the lights, horn and more.

Floor-Mounted Hand Controls

Transfers acceleration and braking to your left hand, placing the controls in an ergonomic position beside the centre console.

A floor-mounted design leaves more leg room for the driver and is ideal for those who prefer to steer with their right hand. Like column-mounted controls, models are available with mechanical or electronic acceleration, as well as secondary controls for indicators, lights, wipers and more.

Steering Aids

Steering Aids

Steering Aids allow you to continuously turn the wheel, making them ideal for steering with one hand.

Whilst they can be used independently, they are essential when hand controls are fitted to a car. Our specialist Steering Aids, like the Tetra Grip provide an alternative grip position and additional wrist support for drivers with reduced grip strength.

Remote Control Devices

Remote Controls provide drivers with access to secondary functions such as the indicators, horn, wipers and lights, in a more convenient location.

They can be integrated into a Steering Aid like a Steering Ball or a Lollipop Grip, allowing you to steer and operate secondary functions with one hand. Alternatively our Hand Control Mounted Remote Control places the secondary functions with your accelerating and braking hand.

Left Foot Accelerators

Transfers acceleration to a new left foot pedal for drivers who are left-leg dominant.

Wheelchair Roof Boxes

Designed for drivers unable to operate the accelerator with their right foot, an additional pedal is fitted to the left of the brake. The use of the right pedal is retained for shared vehicles. It either flips-up safely out of the way or is protected by a pedal guard, so you can easily switch between left or right foot acceleration.

Easy Vehicle Access

Easy Vehicle Access

Manual Swivel Seats

Swivel Seats make access to and from your car safer and easier by rotating the seat to face out of the door and extending out on sliding rails.

BraunAbility's Turny Manual swivel base is designed for those who find it difficult to enter a vehicle or make a transfer from their wheelchair. A manual lever locks the seat in place and allows for simple control of the turning mechanism. The seat can still slide forward and back in the car for comfort.

Powered & Lowering Swivel Seats

Electronic Swivel Seats remove the physical requirement to manually rotate the seat.

The Turny Low Vehicle, provides a powered solution to rotate and extend the seat. The Turny Orbit even lowers the seat down, making it perfect for taller cars and SUVs. The Turny Evo further improves vehicle access with it's programmable movement path, allowing it to be individually tailored for each user/vehicle, making a driver's side installation possible on many cars.

Swivel Seats

Seating Options and Accessories

Swivel bases come with a choice of seats for adults and children with various postural needs. You can even upgrade to a Wheelchair Swivel Seat.

There are also a range of seat accessories available for additional postural support depending on individual requirements. This includes; armrests, head support, backrest cushion, lumbar support, secure belts and harnesses. This will be assessed and discussed during our free home assessments.

Wheelchair Swivel Seat

The Carony wheelchair base removes any need for a caregiver to physically lift the user during their transfer.

This lets them stay seated in the wheelchair when moving into the car. By docking onto a swivel base the entire wheelchair seat, with the seated user, can slide into the car and swivel in where it becomes the car seat.

Transfer Plate

Make transferring easier by bridging the gap between your mobility device and the car.

Transfer Plates create a static, temporary platform on the outer edge of the seat on which to pause and pivot. Autochair's quick release Transfer Plate and BraunAbility's folding Transfer Board offer a solution for drivers and passengers in virtually any vehicle.

Person Hoist

Our Milford Person Lift removes the requirement for a caregiver to physically lift the user in or out of the vehicle during their transfer.

Ideal for wheelchair users looking to get seated safely and comfortably in the original seat of a vehicle as either the driver or passenger. A great alternative to a WAV (Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle), our Person Hoist lifts you via a comfortable fitted sling that can safely accommodate children and adults alike.
